WHZ Certification Authority (WHZ-CA)

The WHZ CA (Certificate Authority) is the certification authority of the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau and is responsible for issuing server certificates as well as user and group certificates.

These certificates are a core component of digital IDs, which can be used to identify individuals, groups, and servers.

The main application area of the issued certificates is securing communication on the Internet:

  • electronic signing,
  • encrypting, and
  • identifying.

The WHZ CA operates within the framework of the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) of the DFN Association (German Research Network Association) to support science, research, and education.

The certificates are issued according to the X.509 standard. Electronic signatures generated with them are "advanced electronic signatures" in accordance with the eIDAS Regulation of the European Union.
